UK Energy prices have increased twice as fast as the European Union average. Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development statistics showed that the UK gas and electricity bills rose 29.7% in the past year compared with 15% in the EU.

Energy price rises
Consumer Focus chief executive Ed Mayo said the UK should learn from other countries which may be doing more to keep their prices down. He commented by saying “We are no longer an energy island. With increased demand from growing economies such as India and China, the prices we now pay for our energy are more vulnerable to fluctuations across the world.”
With the uncertanty of further increases the UK should look to try to save on their energy bills whereever possible to fight back.
Winter is creeping up on us and with energy prices going through the roof, maybe this year is
a good time to think about efficient energy use when it comes to heating.
Small changes can make a small difference:
Turn your thermostat down. Reducing your room temperature by 1°C could cut your heating bills by up to 10 percent.
If you have a programmer, set your heating and hot water to come on only when required rather than all the time.
If you get cold try adding another layer of clothing on before turning the heating on.
Close your curtains at dusk to stop heat escaping through the windows and check for draughts around windows and doors.
It’s horrible sitting in a draught – and it means heat is escaping from your home, wasting valuable energy. Walk around your home on a windy day and work out where the draughts are coming from.
Bigger changes will make a big difference:
Check and upgrade your loft insulation. Your home can lose up to 40% of its heat through the loft space and walls, so investing in some good loft insulation will be well worth it. The Warmroof Rigid Foam Loft Insulation System is the most effective and highly loft insulation available today. Saves up to 80% of the heat lost through your loft. Owing to its 95% closed-cell construction, it is far more efficient than fibreglass, keeping your roof warm in the winter.
Renewable sources of energy will reduce your annual fuel bills. Solar hot water heating is one of the most cost-effective technologies available. One of the companies at the forefront of domestic solar power provision is Solar Home Energy Ltd. Installing a Solar Home Energy system can produce up to 60% of a household’s hot water needs, and at the same time reduce carbon emissions by up to half a tonne every year, helping to reduce your carbon footprint and your fuel bills.
Stay warm with energy saving glazing. Poorly insulated window frames and single glazed windows account for up to 20% of heat loss in the average home. You should save around £100 a year on your heating bills as a result. The largest independent manufacturer and installer of high durability double glazing replacement windows and doors, PVC-U windows, doors, patios, and porches in the South East of England is Crystal Windows.
Don’t let the energy bill rises bring a chill to you.

Rising Energy Bills
Insulating your home to Save Heat Loss - Will Save You Money!
Most UK homes don’t have the recommended amount of insulation. By properly insulating your home using products such as the Warmroof System you could save £££’s a year on your heating bills.
What’s more, cutting down the energy your home wastes will help tackle climate change at the same time. That’s because home energy use is responsible for over a quarter of all emissions of CO2. If you waste less energy and only consume that which you need efficiently, you generate less CO2.

Save Energy and Cash – Insulate your loft!

Around half the heat lost in a typical home escapes through the walls and the roof.
Insulating your loft is simple to do and you can even install the insulation yourself. Even if you already have loft insulation, check its thickness. Adding another layer to bring it up to the recommended 270mm will save both energy and money being wasted.
Warmroof CFC Free Spray Foam Insulation system has even larger efficiencies over standard loft insulation.
It also creates a clean dry usable space in the loft.

Keep Your Roof Warm and Reduce Your Heating Bills with Warmroof
The Warmroof Rigid Foam Insulation System is the most effective roof insulation available today. Owing to its 95% closed-cell construction, it is far more efficient than fibreglass, keeping your roof warm in the winter and cool in the summer.
Stop Heat Loss : Keep Your Roof Warm
With the Warmroof system installed, heat loss through the roof is dramatically reduced, as illustrated by the picture to the right. Although both properties have fibreglass, only the property on the left, which has had the Warmroof system installed, has retained the heat leaving the snow un-melted on it’s roof. You also benefit from a roof space that is warm, dry and clean.
Reduce Your Heating Bills
The cost of heating a home has never been higher, both in financial and environmental terms. Warmroof’s customers report huge savings on their heating bills – up to 30% in most cases – and enjoy a consistently warmer home. What would a 30% saving in heating bills mean to your household budget? All too often a loft becomes a damp, cold, unusable space and is given little thought. An empty loft will absorb heat, making homes difficult to heat effectively and pushing up heating bills. An un-tapped resource in many homes, a loft space can be used to create:
- a usable room
- a study
- a playroom
- a clean storage area
Installing the Warmroof System will transform your cold and dirty loft.
You will benefit from:
- extra storage space for your valuables
- a warm, dry, clean and usable loft space
- a loft space which is warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer
- increasing the value of your home
With the simple addition of a window and flooring, you will also create an attractive, light and airy additional room – adding further value to your home.
Many people planning full loft conversions find that the Warmroof System is the only guaranteed way of solving the problems of water and wind ingress permanently, sealing the roof into a far stronger, more robust structure.
One of the most important aspects of the Warmroof System is the fact that it produces a seamless blanket of insulation, without joints. Any jointed system, including insulation boards, gives rise to a potential weak point, leading to a significant loss of insulation value.

Is Your Roof Beyond Repair?Sometimes, a roof becomes so damaged that a replacement roof seems to be the only option. If this proves to be the case, then Warmroof’s professional roofing teams around the UK can provide a quotation for a replacement roof installation.
Warmroof’s quality systems ensure that your new replacement roof will be constructed of the highest-quality materials to the highest-possible professional standards.
Causes of Serious Roof Problems
There are many reasons a roof may reach this stage of decay.
- Some of the original roof lining materials used, particularly early building papers, are not as strong or as stable as modern equivalents.
- Failure of lime mortar, torching or tile-back pointing systems leads to associated problems of weather ingress and roof instability.
- Gaps between slates and tiles become exposed. This allows ingress of water, ice, snow and cold winds – causing excessive heat-loss or frozen tanks and pipes.
- Rusting nails (nail fatigue), structural decay, erosion of roof materials, tiles and roof linings can all cause a roof to be damaged beyond repair.
STOP!! Important Information For Home-Owners Considering A Replacement Roof
It is sometimes possible to save a roof, rather than opting for a complete roof replacement. You should be aware that there is a very good chance that Warmroof could save your current roof. In fact, in around 75% of cases, Warmroof has provided an alternative solution that has saved customers thousands of pounds.
Save Thousands Vs A Roof Replacement
Before re-roofing your home, it would make sense to talk to Warmroof. Warmroof will asses your roof and, if possible, avoid replacement – installing the Warmroof System instead. The Warmroof System involves roof renovation and treatment with a rigid foam spray, plus far less trouble, disruption and cost.
As an alternative to weeks of costly labour, scaffold, dirt and disruption, the Warmroof System provides a stronger, cleaner, insulated roof, at a fraction of the price of our re-roofing projects. To find out more, click here.

Mr & Mrs Poulotn also said that ‘after the job was done the temperatures stayed even, not going above 95 degrees in the summer and not dropping below 45 degrees in the winter’. This is because the Spray foam saves up to 80% of the heat normally lost through your roof, this means that their loft will stay cooler in Summer and warn in the Winter, guaranteed for 25 years!
Another added bonus is that they have gained valuable extra room in their home now that loft is now warm, dry, clean and useable. The couple pointed out that ‘the loft stays clean and dry! Before we used to get rain and dirt blowing under the slates since there was no fe
lt’.
As an environmentally friendly couple Mr & Mrs Poulton, who are proud to grow all their own vegetables and buy local produce, meat and fish, can now say that they are cutting their carbon footprint even further. With their Warmroof System they are reducing their carbon emissions because they are no longer producing heat to warm up their house which is then escaping straight out of their roof.
